Lyn's mother kept a written journal from 1956 until she died, so Lyn has been transcribing these into Word on the computer, and every once and awhile she finds a cute entry
"....May 9, 1986, Lyn's 35th birthday, gave her a macrame hanger and 2 philodendron plants......"
Births, graduations, parties, lifes events both small and large.
She also kept a purchases journal, and the motorhome journal, with trips and prices. Lyn is also keeping busy by stockpiling newly crocheted cancer caps.
Friday I noticed the little shelf next to the door by the stairs was damp. I had noticed this last week, and assumed it was AC condensate. Now (since no AC use) I fear I have a leak, probably from the windshield seal up the side. I have some silicone that may fix it, and I positioned one of Lyn's little personal fans to dry it out which will probably take 2 days!
Jim decided that though the lawn was still damp, 9 days was pushing it. It even looks longer when the properties on both sides have been mowed. He got out the tractor and we mowed edged and blowed. Ready for the weekend!
While doing this we noticed Mark (2 doors down) unloading furniture. Soon he was knocking on the door looking for help. They had been to an estate sale and snapped up a hope chest and a smaller chest to hold shoes and sit on while lacing them up. They were very nice for the money spent. We decided we better go down and have a look.
Jenny had been upstairs enjoying her first day of vacation (doing laundry) so we goaded her into going. I thought this would be 2 miles down the road but still on the island. The ferry ride is $6 so you have to plan so you get your money's worth. But once again I was hoodwinked. Jenny comes down and says she's driving and we have to stop at her office (40 mins away) to drop off all the graduation stuff from yesterday, as it was the end of her school year.
We went to the sale which was the last house at the end of this long meandering cul-de-sac with the river on one side and a canal on the other. The house (cottage) was older and nicely kept and was on the point where the canal hit the river, with 2 boat slips with electric lifts. There were a few things left. The folks were in their nineties and giving up the home.
From there we pressed on to Jenny's office and emptied her trunk.
From there it gets a little hazy, but soon we are in a Subaru dealer looking at Outbacks! Jenny's Hybrid Camry has 180,000 miles, and they have been thinking of upgrading. Jim had driven our Outback, and thought Jenny should see them.
The dealer was really excited to see us, and arranged for an airshow! Turns out he was in the flightpath for the Selfridge Air Force Base 100 Year Anniversary Airshow, so there were jets and older planes flying around overhead in formation.
The Toyota dealer closed so we found a place to eat and updated our retirement plans. (Powerball is up to $535 mil)

No matter how good you are at parking between the lines on the ferry, you can't escape the salt! (Stacy will notice I am maintaining the septic subtheme here!)

You look good on that mower, dude! Besides the weather, everything seems to be going great. But that's what you get in Michigan.
ReplyDeleteThemes and subthemes are good things to have as a thread through a travel blog. You may recall out constant underlying theme is doing laundry in places that don't have coin operated laundromats. We'll keep laundry and you are welcome to any topic that incorporates "tanks and dump" in the same sentence. The grass looks so green. And the mower looks like fun to drive. Continue to enjoy yourself and please give greetings to those we know.
ReplyDeleteI think you have missed mowing your lawn! And we miss you mowing your old Folsom lawn...it just isn't as green anymore. Looks like you both are having a fantastic time! ~Bill
