Monday morning we left Marquette, stopping for fuel and a pasty in Munising, continuing to Newberry, and the Critters Northcountry Campground (110 miles). We continued in the car 70 miles round trip, to the Great Lakes Shipwreck Museum at Whitefish Point. Truly a special place. It was so clean and tells the story of the hundreds of wrecks that occurred over the years for various reasons.
On the way back we stopped at Tahquamenon Falls. There is an upper and a lower falls but the water at both looks like rootbeer, brown and foamy because of the minerals in the water. In Kali they would probably build filtration plants up river to make it look cleaner!
The lower park has rowboats you can take across the river to the island that allows access to a trail to see the five lower falls.
The upper falls had a brewery located in the state park! So after viewing we stopped and had a pint.
Critters had no wifi and the verizon was 2 bars of 3G. We're talking rural here!
The falls are really nice. Haven't seen them in a while. Rich, do you remember when we went there in winter. It was 25 degrees below zero and we crosscountry skied to them.
ReplyDeleteWe went to the falls about 11 years ago but didn't know about the boat to the other falls and definitely didn't know about the brewery. Great photos.
